Prof A. Raja is one of the eminent and distinguished Neurosurgeons in India. He did his MBBS from Madras University (1967 to 1972) and MS (Neurosurgery): 1974 to 1979 – I batch of Direct Neurosurgery from Madras University. He was working in KMC Manipal as
- Lecturer – 13th June 1979 to July 11th 1980.
- Assistant Professor – 12th July 1980 to 12th June 1982.
- Reader – 13th June 1982 to 13th June 1983.
- Associate Professor – 1st July 1983 to 12th June 1986.
- Professor & HOD – 13th June 1986 to 21st August 2010.
I batch of MCh. Neurosurgery was started in the year 1992 and 22 students were qualified for MCh. (Neurosurgery) under him. He has been PhD guide for many students, whose works were appreciated by the external assessor. He has been Examiner to various medical colleges and central institutions including SCIMCT, AIIMS. He has published – 24 National and International Journals.
He joined Adarsha Hospital, Udupi as Head of Department and Senior Consultant, Dept. of Neurosurgery on 22nd August 2010. He is the Chairman of National Neurosciences Mission, Manipal, India. He is Life Member of NSI. He is the founder treasurer of ISCVS and later President of ISCVS in the year 2007. He is the founder of Karavali Chapter of NSI. He started National Neuro Science Mission India at Adarsha Hospital, Udupi. Craniophagus Twin separation surgery – first of its kind in India at KMC hospital, Mangalore in 2004, was operated by Prof. A. Raja along with Dr. Muralidhar Pai. He is the first Neurosurgeon to introduce Microscope in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.
